Last year, Delaney Newton was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

3-year-old Delaney Newton has been battling brain cancer for the past 1.5 years. On September 12th, 2013 she braved through a 12-hour brain surgery by a team of 12 doctors and nurses at Oakland’s Kaiser Hospital. Her parents and family have been nothing but supportive, staying by her side and working hard to raise funds for her care.

We recently had the opportunity to speak with Travis Newton, Delaney’s uncle, who shared his touching story of how ooShirts has helped him gather support and raise funds for his niece.

Delaney and Her Custom Shirts

What made you decide to design and distribute shirts for your niece?

Travis: “We decided to start making shirts due to the overwhelming support by friends, family, and the communities that supported Delaney and her family. It started off as 1 simple order with ‘Team Delaney’ on the front and her Shakespeare inspirational quote on the back:  “And though she be but LITTLE, she is FIERCE!”‘

“We had an overwhelming support and had to order over 500 on the first order of shirts, hoodies, and long sleeves. All said and done, to date we have over 5,000 Team Delaney shirts in communities across the country.”

We love the shirts, and we’re honored to be a part of this amazing cause. Delaney is adorable! How did you choose ooShirts for your custom clothing needs, and what has your experience been like with us?

Travis: ”I came across ooShirts due to the feedback and reputation the company had online.  Very positive reviews. [The] 5000 shirts we had ordered had no issues, and the support staff was very quick to help and update us as things were being done.

I have recommended ooShirts to many others. Delaney’s mom, Janice, is actually ordering more shirts [through ooShirts] for another friend fighting cancer.”

How have the shirts and donation pages helped in your niece’s fight against brain cancer?

Travis: ”The shirts have created support and awareness for Delaney and other children fighting cancer.  I have experienced it myself, along with others, [in which] people ask: “What does that quote mean?” and “Who is it for?” It’s amazing how the power of words and shirts can create a conversation and start positive change.

People have been drawn to her site because of the shirts. And in addition, we started ‘FIERCE FRIDAYS’, [in which] supporters wore their shirts and sent us pictures of them at work, home, on vacation, or running errands. It really helps put a smile on the parents’ faces and those showing support, because it [became] bigger than what we could imagine. It’s a fun and positive way to show support during a very difficult time.”

We are honored to help in Delaney’s cause and are touched by her moving story and the support she’s been given by her communities. We also want to thank Travis for sharing his experiences with us!
